The first
Hotel in the city of Braham was built around 1899. It was called the
"Pioneer Hotel" on Lincoln Street (know known as West Central Drive).
It was located where we now find the Braham Pub and Grill. At that
time, about 6 trains passed through Braham daily carrying many passengers.

In 1899 the
Hesselroth brothers opened the first restaurant. The Hesselroth family
homes are about 1 mile west on (Hwy 65 and Kanabec Co. Rd 4)

In 1901 - Butter
sold in Braham was 10cents a pound, Eggs- 10 cents a dozen.

Braham came into existence due to the building of the
railroad in 1899. It was incorporated as a city in 1901. |

In 1901 the population of Braham was 235, as of 1999 the
population was 1,190 and it continues to grow. The current population
is 1,276. |

In 1902, Braham's first school was built. |

Braham had the "Park Theater" which was open from
1936-1964. They showed stage and screen shows. |

In 1907 Braham's "Tremont Hotel" rates were $1.50 a
night. They were also one of the first businesses to provide a phone which
was installed in April of 1906. In March of 1908 the Tremont burnt
down due to causes unknown. |

In 1908, the St. Patrick's Day fire destroyed much of
Braham. |

In 1913, the first electric lights were turned on in
Braham. |

In 1935, PICK Electric Coop began. It became East
Central Electric in 1945. |

We had a local Professional Baseball Player?
That is correct. George "Rube" Walberg was born in Pine City and lived in
Greeley. He pitched for the Philadelphia Athletics. In fact they
won the 1929 World Series 4 games to 1. He died in 1978 in Tempe,
Arizona

In 1974 the Braham Hospital Closed. They were averaging
10 patients a day. It had been open for 60 years. |

Braham was declared Homemade Pie Capital of Minnesota by
Governor Rudy Perpich in 1990. |

In 1991, Braham residents begin dialing the "396" Prefix
instead of "6". |

March 1993, the Yellow Flashing Light appeared at Hwy 107
and Central Drive. The town tried to get a stop light but the Minnesota DOT
said that it wasn't needed. |

Before May 1, 1941 the Braham "Bombers" were known as the
"Froyenmen". This was because of one of Braham's greatest coaches,
Leonard C. Froyen. |

On June 19th, 1986 the last issue of "The Braham Journal"
was issued. Its editor was Esther Gustafson. She was the papers heart and
lifeline, she passed away 11 weeks prior to the papers last issue. She had
spent 59 of her 78 years working there, producing a paper for a town she
loved. |
